Brain Anatomy, Function, and Techniques for Manual Therapists
For manual therapists, understanding brain anatomy and function is not just an academic exercise; it is knowledge that can revolutionize your practice and profoundly influence the lives of those you treat.
Every muscle contraction, movement, and pain response originates in the brain. When you grasp how the brain processes sensory input and regulates motor output, your hands-on work transcends physical manipulation—it transforms into a dialogue with the nervous system. Understanding how to engage this command center enables you to create interventions that are not only effective but also profoundly restorative.
Pain is not merely a signal from injured tissue; it is a perception shaped by the brain. Studying brain function prepares you to tackle not only the symptoms but also the root of the discomfort, enhancing your effectiveness as a healer.
As a manual therapist, your intuition and hands are your greatest tools. But imagine combining that intuitive touch with a thorough understanding of neural pathways, brain plasticity, and sensory-motor integration.
Neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to rewire itself, is one of the most exciting discoveries in modern neuroscience. As a manual therapist, your work directly influences this process. Every manipulation technique you perform sends signals to the brain, creating opportunities for healthier patterns.
Clients are increasingly seeking therapists who offer more than just routine care. By explaining how your techniques influence their nervous system or promote brain health, you elevate your practice and establish trust with your clients.
The brain is endlessly fascinating. From its intricate folds to its control over everything from breathing to creativity, studying the brain is akin to exploring the universe—it’s truly awe-inspiring.
By studying brain anatomy and function, you’re not just expanding your knowledge—you’re evolving as a therapist. Your practical skills will take on new meaning, your treatments will delve deeper, and your clients will benefit from your expertise.
This 4-day class give you 32 CEU’s approved by the NCBTMB.
Students of Milne Institute will receive a sign off on their Dance Card for 2 Professional Sessions & 2 Student Exchanges.
Prerequisite: 150 hours hands on bodywork.
The power of the brain is unlimited. The clarity and quality of our mind influences our physical health & vitality,
our emotional balance, and our perceptions of the world. As CranioSacral workers we understand that working
with the mind is as important as working with the bones, tissues, and fluids in facilitating health and well-being.
This 4-day advanced seminar will look at the role the brain plays in our overall health. The class will cover:
• Brain anatomy including the triune brain concepts
• Neurotransmitters and their impact on our function and wellbeing
• Embryology and brain development
• Trauma and its effect on the brain
• Cranial nerves: location, function, and symptoms
The experiential and hands-on segments of the workshop will offer
• Exercises and meditations to help us optimize our brain
• Brain self-palpation, motility and self-care
• Brain harmonization and treatment of neural tissues protocol
• Work with key cranial nerve functions
Unlike most other health professionals, we are able to spend focused time working directly with our
client’s brain. We can serve our clients by
• Facilitating re-alignment, rebalancing, releasing, & revitalization
• Educating them on brain-related issues
• Encouraging self-care and working with them on practical strategies
• Advocating & focusing on Health & Well-being
